Safe Streets San Diego is a group of families who have lost their loved ones to traffic violence. Our goal is to save future lives by advocating for safer streets and driver accountability, while supporting each other in the process. We are dedicated to revolutionizing our road system so that no other families have to go through the pain that we have experienced.
We believe in supporting the international movement for “Vision Zero,” or the total elimination of deaths and severe injuries caused by traffic collisions. While this goal may seem like a fantasy in the United States, where 42,000 people lose their lives in traffic collisions each year, cities across the world have proven that the implementation of evidence-based traffic safety measures can drastically reduce deaths on the road. These safety measures include reduced speed limits; enhanced crosswalks; separated bikeways; and traffic calming features like speed bumps, roundabouts, and curb extensions. We are committed to saving lives through advocating for the implementation of these safety features all across San Diego.
We meet monthly to share stories, support each other, and strategize on how we can advocate for safer streets.
If you have lost a loved one to traffic violence, or are a survivor of traffic violence yourself, please join us in our work. Our voices are stronger together.
